A Short Primer on Shark Vacuums and Motors

Originally a part of the Euro-Pro company, the parent firm of Shark has existed for more than 100 years in Europe. Its third-generation owner, Mark Rosenzweig, moved operations to Canada. You can find both new and used Shark vacuums on eBay as well as Shark motors.

What kind of vacuum cleaners and motors does Shark make?

You’ll find a full line of vacuum cleaners from Shark. The manufacturer makes robot vacuums, corded stick vacuums, upright vacuums, cordless vacuums, and parts and accessories for them, including Shark motors like the Shark rotator motor replacement.

How do you know which replacement Shark vacuum motor you need?

Your Shark vacuum cleaner features a serial number that refers to the cleaner and the motor. For example, to find the Shark Navigator vacuum motor, check the back of the stick on this upright’s body. Sometimes, a part number like the motor identifier does not pull up the part. It may be listed under the number of the vacuum cleaner model. You might need to search for “Shark motor” with a specific model number to find available parts like a motor, an HEPA attachment, or a motorized floor nozzle. The serial number may be printed on the vacuum’s motor in one of the three ways:

  • In two parts, such as d4275h a3720,
  • In three parts, such as d4275h a 3720,
  • With a dash, such as d4275h-a 3720.
Kinds of vacuum cleaners

You will typically spend about a couple hundred dollars for a new, good quality machine of any type. The type of vacuum cleaner to purchase depends on the type of floors in your home. Consider your type of flooring:

  • Bare floors: A canister vacuum with attachments works to clean hardwood or hardwood laminate and tile. Use the bare-floor brush attachment to easily clean corners and tight spaces. An upright will work, too, with the brush roll turned off.
  • Wall-to-wall carpeting: A canister vacuum that has a motorized power head attachment cleans carpet. An upright works better for large areas of wall-to-wall carpet. An adjustable-height brush roll lets you change the setting to accommodate multiple carpet pile heights. Heavily trafficked carpets benefit from a vacuum with dirt sensors.
  • Stairs: Apartment buildings with lots of stairs need a canister vacuum. The attachments and long hose that come with it let you easily get in and around railings.
  • Cleaning ceiling fans, drapes, etc.: An upright vacuum with numerous attachments, especially a dusting brush, an upholstery brush, and a standard crevice tool, lets you easily clean mattresses, clean the tops of bookcases, remove pet hair, and vacuum the draperies and area rugs. Those with extra-long cords of up to 35 feet work.
Bagged vs. bagless vacuums

Bags make cleaning up the vacuum easier as they reduce mess. You have to have a replacement bag ready though. These also work better to trap allergens if you or your family members have allergies. Bagless vacs provide a more convenient way to clean.
