How do you change the shift knob and boot on your Miata?

Make sure that the emergency brake is on and the car is placed in neutral. Unscrew the old gear shift knob. It will be connected either via a thread in the knob or a screw connecting the knob to the gear shift. If it is a screw, use an Allen wrench to remove the screw and the knob can be pulled off.
