Choosing From King Trombones

Trombones have gone through many transformations before coming to their current form with the inception of the King trombone brand in 1894. Today, their variation of the trombone is widely used in the jazz music genre. On eBay, you can find modern and vintage King trombones for sale.

Not all trombones are the same. You can choose a model that suits your needs as a beginner, student, intermediate player, or a professional. For example, a student would pick trombone King 606 or used King trombones 605. Someone on the intermediate level can go for a trombone model 608. Professional players get trombones that go at a higher price for an instrument that would serve them in a professional setting.

You can pick between two finishes of the trombone. There are lacquered trombones and silver-plated trombones. The different finish does affect the sound but not noticeably. Lacquer trombones will be easier to clean since the polish is usually insensitive to the type of cleaning it is given. Silver-plated trombones have to be cleaned more gently and be polished to look good and remove any tarnishing that happens on the silver. Lacquer may have to be done over if it gets scratched in time while silver will probably last for the lifetime of the instrument.

• Tenor trombones: A tenor trombone has is pitched in B flat, but its sound of the range is higher than that of a bass trombone.
• Valve trombones: A valve trombone can be any size. These types of trombone models refer to ones that have three valves as a trombone would.

The bell size is important for the sound of the instrument. Bass trombones have bigger bells than those of the higher ranged trombones. You can find bells that are made of different materials that affect the sound quality in a different way. These are the materials used:

• Silver: Silver is a good material for higher-pitched instruments as it delivers greater clarity on the top notes.
• Golden brass: A golden brass material has more copper in its content than yellow brass. This gives the instrument a fuller and warmer tone.
• Yellow brass: Yellow brass is the most common type of brass used and is more affordable for beginners and people that play for recreational purposes.
